Real Estate, Arts & Politics
Dear Dan,

Here's what I'm covering this month:
  • Centre Street
  • Broad Street Bank
  • Food as Art
  • Other stuff
HHG starts work on Centre St.
    THE new Trenton neighborhood
HHG (John Hatch, David Henderson and Michael Goldstein) has begun work on their properties in the 100 block of Centre St. They're doing the demo work on the interiors and starting some facade work. You can drive by and see the progress at 50, 102- 104 and 105-107 Centre St.

HHG can't legally start marketing these properties yet (don't have all the the approvals), but that doesn't mean I can't. These buildings are unique, in an activist neighborhood and near everything (train station, downtown, Arena, restaurants, etc).

I'm a bit of a broken record in my recommendation about this part of town.

50 Centre St. is part of the development and a quirky building that was last an Elks Lodge. It's right on the tracks which has a plus and minus. The minus is the obvious occasional noise. The plus is a rare perch at the crossroad of Trenton that's visible from every direction. David thinks this unit will go as an artist live/work space. I agree.

The other buildings are across the street and were both mixed use over the years. I'm not sure how HHG will carve them up but presumably one unit per floor.

So, I suggest not waiting for these opportunities to come to you, rather let HHG know you're interested with a phone call or email or both. The contact info is on the Trenton Lofts site.

Rental Availability in the middle of the HHG project

While HHG is building up Centre St., 106 Centre is available for rent. It's a row house, and not a loft per se, but is in an interesting part of town and owned by good friends of mine, Roland and Annie Pott.

Roland and Annie own the adjacent Trenton Makes facility which houses artist studios, shops, The Conduit Music Club, Greenlight Vegan Restaurant and the 449 Room. As I said, an interesting neighborhood.

Pay to Play
Dan Dodson   Anti Pay to Play will be on the ballot
Over 3000 people signed the anti Pay to Play initiative banning large donations from professional companies seeking business from the city.

Our city council had to opportunity to adopt the measure last month and three of the seven voted for it (Coston, Bethea, Melone). However, four of the council members (noticeably all three of Mayor Palmer's lackeys) voted against it.

In a way this is good news, as Trenton voters will surely vote for the measure showing clearly how out of touch The Mayor and his council lackeys are with progressive Trentonians.

Ice House Model Unit
    Opening Soon
Got a note from Dan Brenna. He says that work on the Ice House is progressing and a model will open in the next week or so.
Broad St. Bank
    Web Site is up
Take a look through the Broad St. Bank web site. I'm still working to get material sent directly to those who've asked for it, but meanwhile there's rental info on the BSB site.
Downtown Trenton
    Exciting Additions
New Indian restaurant downtown

A new restaurant called Tandori by Nature recently opened on Front St. near S. Warren. They're open practically all the time so that's great. Michelle and I have tried it and not only was it tasty but the portions were "Trenton Size".

Dramatic outdoor mural

The Trenton Downtown Association has commissioned a large mural on the side of building on S. Warren between Front and W. State. It depicts the first reading of The Declaration of Independence in Trenton on the actual spot it was read.

Very cool.

New town house development
    From Centex Homes
I got an email from a woman at Centex homes this month.

They plan to build 75 townhomes in North Trenton between New York and Ohio Avenues. These aren't lofts but they are brand new market rate housing in Trenton that will be well built and a heck of a lot more reasonable to afford than if they were in nearby Lawrenceville.

As the project progresses, I'll create a special space for the project on the Trenton Lofts site.

Grand Court Villas
    Availability
I got a note from Jasco Management which runs GCV, aka the Cigar Factory has a few openings. The Trenton Lofts site has all the contact info.
